Frequently asked questions
Do spaces count as characters?
Yes. "Characters" includes spaces; "Without spaces" removes every space, tab and full-width space. Line breaks are not counted as characters.
How are emoji counted?
An emoji counts as one character, even emoji made of several code points such as 👍🏽 or family emoji. Some platforms (X, SMS) count them as 2 — their pages show that rule.
How are words counted?
Like a word processor: any group of letters or digits between spaces is a word, so "don't" and "e-mail" are one word each. Japanese and Thai are split with a dictionary.
Is my text saved or uploaded?
No. Everything is counted in your browser. The text is kept only on this device so it is still there if you reload the page.
